Rabbi RuthE Levy

Spiritual Leadership

Rabbi RuthE Levy hails from California where she was educated at CSU Long Beach and CSU Fullerton.  As a teenager, she was a member of Temple Tikvah Teens, where she began her Jewish activism.  As an adult, she was the VP of Religious Education for the Sisterhood, and she joined the choir.  She married and had two sons, Sam and Josh.

RuthE joined the Air Force in 1980 and served at duty stations around the world, which brought her to Georgia for the first time.  As part of her duties, she served as a certified Jewish Lay Leader, ensuring there were Jewish activities at each base.

When she returned home to California after the Air Force, she rejoined Temple Beth Tikvah, its choir,  and became their Vice President of Religious Practices for four years.  She also served as rabbi to Villa Valencia, a senior living facility in Laguna Hills.  She met and married David Lombrozo and his three children, Joseph, Aaron, and Leon.

When David was transferred to Atlanta, RuthE began her career as a Jewish educator, teaching religious school at Temple Emanu El, serving as Director of Education at Temple Kehillat Chaim, and teaching middle school Judaics at the Davis Academy.  She also returned to her capacity as rabbi at senior living facilities.

Rabbi Levy was ordained in 2022 through the Jewish Spiritual Leaders’ Institute. She is currently serving as rabbi to Regal Pointe and Solana senior living facilities in East Cobb, and is the owner of And Thou Shalt Read and Oy Toys, selling Jewish books and toys to individuals,  synagogues and schools around the country.  She leads maariv services on Sim Shlom Online, and at Congregation Etz Chaim.  She is part of Shiva Circles, a new outreach program from the Shomer Collective.

Meet Our Board

Message From the President

Shalom, y’all, from the mountains of Western North Carolina, we are glad you are here!

We are a relatively small, mature congregation with members who attend from far and wide, from as far east as Asheville, to the west in Hayesville and Murphy, NC, even as far south as northern Georgia. They all come here for a reason. Besides the natural beauty this area definitely has, you quickly see we are a welcoming, inclusive congregation that invites you into our “our whole mishbucha”, our family.

Our roots have been growing for 47 years, from a spur-of-the-moment Seder and Hanukkah gathering of Jewish families trying to make a connection. The idea grew, and Mountain Synagogue was born. With a mix of Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform backgrounds, we blend our monthly Shabbat services to appeal to most tastes. Our recent hire of Rabbi Ruth E Levy adds to our spiritual experiences through prayer and song.

Through our partnership with All Saints Episcopal Church, we have helped to establish the Macon County Interfaith Coalition, a group of several different faith groups that meet regularly throughout the year to celebrate, learn, and understand how we are more aligned in goals and desires for our entire connected community.

Come see for yourself. Reach out and attend a service, come to an event, or offer your unique talents and watch us grow!

B’shalom,
